Join the BHS Help Desk and members of the Burlington Public Schools EdTech Team at Marshall Simonds Middle School on Thursday, May 8th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. as we host the next Parent Tech Night, “Putting Your Best (Digital) Foot Forward.” This workshop will help parents and students learn how digital tools can be used to build and maintain a positive and impressive e-reputation. We are proud to have Googler Michael Westervelt leading this workshop along with members of the BHS Help Desk.
Michael is an Account Manager at Google in large client services. In this role, he helps national companies create and implement advertising and branding solutions through Google’s many platforms, including google.com and YouTube. Prior to joining his current team in 2012, Michael worked as a contract employee for Google Offers. He has three years of experience working with national and local businesses.
In addition to his role at Google, Michael serves as Executive Director and founder of Next Step Consulting; a Boston based nonprofit that works with local college students and community members to help them find or create meaningful employment opportunities in their areas. Michael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of New Mexico, where he served as Associated Student body vice president and president of the Student Senate. He currently lives in Boston, MA.
Michael will be sharing his expertise, both as a Google employee and as the CEO of his own consulting firm, on using social media to build a professional online presence. He will provide guidance to students and their parents on how to go about developing their first resume, LinkedIn profile, and how other social media tools including Twitter and blogs can be used for professional networking. BHS Help Desk students will co-facilitate this workshop and will showcase their own career portfolios. Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices to this interactive session and will have the opportunity to explore and experiment with several of the tools presented during the workshop.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, May 8th!
