The BPS Edtech team is excited to announce that for the first time ever we will be offering a virtual Tech Savvy Parenting Night on Tuesday, October 27th beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Tech Savvy Parenting Nights Have Gone Virtual!
This month, BPS parents can watch the event streaming live, from any Internet connected device, via YouTube from the comfort of their own homes! Parents who are unable to watch live can view the video archive at their convenience. For October’s event, we will be discussing the important topic of cyber security. We are thrilled to have Sarah Thomas (Virginia), a nationally recognized digital citizenship expert, leading this critical conversation. Sarah will be sharing her information-rich and highly entertaining “Protect Yo’Self Fool!” presentation. She will help parents understand how to provide their children with the benefits of the Internet, while still ensuring a safe, ethical, and responsible experience. She’ll also discuss privacy issues surrounding educational applications. Read more about Sarah here:
Sarah Thomas (Virginia): Thomas is a Google Certified Innovator and founder of the EduMatch project, which promotes connection and collaboration among teachers around the world. She teaches technology at one of the county’s three magnet STEM high schools.
Sarah holds a Masters degree from Howard University in the field of Curriculum and Instruction. She is currently a doctoral candidate at George Mason University, with a major in Education. Her upcoming dissertation, Using Technology to Facilitate Language Acquisition of English Language Learners, is rooted heavily in student-created artifacts through the use of project-based learning.
Sarah is a winner of the 2014 Digital Innovation in Learning Award in the “Sharing is Caring” category, and was named by the National School Board Association as one of the “20 to Watch” in 2015. In addition, she received the honor of the Prince Georges County Public Schools Outstanding Educator Using Technology in 2015.

Protect Yo’Self Fool will begin streaming live by 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes. Once we go live, you can watch the event from the video embed below or watch from the Google+ event page. The BPS Edtech team realizes how busy life can be for moms and dads. We are hoping this virtual format is a convenient option for families who may find it difficult to physically attend an evening event.
